How to Write a Resume for a Job with No Experience: Getting First Job

In the saturated job market, it is always been difficult for everyone to get a job & without work experience. Therefore, the most common question for freshers is how to write a resume for a job with no experience.

Hi, I’m Mohammad Mohsin, a professional resume writer, going to discuss how to write a resume for a job with no experience. Besides, I’m going to share with you some resume writing tips and samples.

Choose an Eye-Catchy Resume Format

Before you start makeover your resume, at first you have to pay attention to choose an Eye-Catchy Resume Format. Ensure that your resume is easy to read for the recruiter team.

Tips:

  •  Don’t use graphically designed resumes because it will make your resume a messy one. Try to keep it simple.
  • Choose a resume format that has multiple columns. Because this type of resume is easily legible.

As a fresher, you may now be thinking about what should be in a resume? Though there is no strictly predefined resume format, still the following sections must be included in your resume to make it a standard one.

After choosing a legible eye-catchy format, first of all, add your contact information with your full name at the top of the resume. For example,

Start with Career Summary

I highly recommend you to start with the Career Summary or Career Objective section after the contact information section.

In this section, you have to briefly describe your skills and strengths relevant to the job. And thus, the career summary must be short and to the point.

For example here are some samples of Career Summary,

“To secure a suitable position in a dynamic and progressive organization where my education, innovation, and potentialities can be flourished and to get the opportunities to go ahead along with a solid and prosperous career path.”

“Want a position allowing me to show my expertise where I can utilize all my skills and knowledge to uplift the standards of the organization.”

“Highly enthusiastic, flexible, and friendly person looking for a job  where I can use my knowledge and skills to make a significant contribution towards the organization.”

Tips:

  • Use Keywords.
  • Read the job description carefully and try to understand what they want. Then, ensure that your summary directly relates to them.
  • No need to mention irrelevant issues.
  • Avoid using general career summary found on the internet.

Don't write down your biography here. Because it is not all about what skills do you have. Rather it is all about what skill they need.

Include Key Skills

Key Skills Section is a section where you have to showcase your skills through what the organization is going to be benefited directly.

The recruiters’ team or the HR department will instantly go through it after the Career Summary Section. So, try to uplift your skills according to their need.

Key Skills must be easy and enough. So, don’t overload it.

Tips:

  • Use bullet points.
  • Highlight relevant skills.

Provide Educational Information

For the fresher, this section is an important one. But it is not as much as important while making a professional resume.

However, list your educational information in chronological order (most recent qualification at the top).

Tips

  • Separate your degrees using bullets.
  • Include the appeared degree also.
  • Use two columns to highlight information
  • Ensure that the section is easily legible.

Let see a small sample below:-

Tips:

  • Don’t provide any wrong information.
  • Don’t hide your result.

Additional Sections

After the Educational Information section, resume structure varies. Now, it is time to uphold your other skills, activities, educational information, etc.

But you have to be careful about one thing that resume is not all about your personal biodata. Rather it can be said that it is a marketing document.

Let see what are the additional sections…

Languages

Highlight your communication skills here. List your language skills.

It is better to add this section on the left sidebar. For example,

  • Use bullet points
  • Use the words ‘Native’, ‘Fluent’, ‘Conversational’, etc. Therefore, it will be easily legible.

List Your Internship Experiences

To get experience, you need a job & to get the job, you need experience. This a kind of loop where often fresher got stuck. Therefore, writing a resume for a job with no experience is a little bit difficult.

However, the internship is a great solution to it. Basically, an internship is a period of work experience offered by an organization for a limited period of time. An internship can be paid or unpaid.

Unpaid internships aren’t bad at all as you can gain experience through them. And thus, it will make the path easy for you & help you to make a good resume to get the first job.

For example, here I have attached some samples so that you can learn how to put your internship experiences on your resume.

Include Voluntary Works & Co-Curricular Activities

You can also put your relevant voluntary works & co-curricular activities in your resume.

Since, the candidate, who has more relevant voluntary works & co-curricular activities, has a greater chance to get the call from the recruiter’s team or the HR department.

So, if you are a fresher, I highly recommend you to put your relevant voluntary works & co-curricular activities in your resume.

Pro Tips

Throughout the whole article, I have already shared so many tips. But in this section, I am going to share some extra resume writing tips.

  1. Don’t Give Any Wrong Information
Never provide any wrong information, because there is a very good chance that you’re going to get caught. Once you get caught, you will lose your credibility, and later you will be fired from the job.
  2. Beware of Applicant Tracking System
Nowadays, many companies use ATS (Applicant Tracking System). It is a software application that enables the electronic handling of recruitment and hiring needs.

If your resume isn’t an ATS-compliant resume, it'll never get through to the human recruiter.

Therefore, my suggestion is to use an ATS-compliant resume & must be well optimized with relevant keywords.
  3. Uphold The Relevant Skills First
Relevant skills directly add value to them. Therefore, always put the relevant skills first.

Besides, the recruiters have very little time to review your resume. So, if you put the relevant skills later, maybe it won’t help you to be selected.
  4. Make A Better Word Choice
Using conventional words, again and again, can cause a negative effect on your resume. So, try to begin each bullet points with a compelling action word. For example,

Instead of using “I was responsible for….”
    Use “Responsible for....”

Instead of using the same word, again and again, you can use their synonyms. For example,

For “Achieved” you can use “Awarded, Outperformed, Earned, etc.”

Again, you can use adverbs to make the sentence more compelling. For example,

Instead of saying, “meet targets set.”
    Say, “Consistently meet targets set.”
