A Village Market Composition/ Essay: A village market is a public place in a village where a great number of people assemble from nearby areas to buy and sell commodities necessary for day to day life. So, it is an important place for the villagers as a buying and selling center. It is the backbone of the rural economy.

Generally, a village market locates at a place where people from different places can easily come. So, a village market is found by the side of a river or canal or at the junction of roads or near a railway station.

There are two types of village markets. One is ‘Daily Market’ and the other is ‘Weekly Market’. The daily market is called ‘bazaar’. It usually sits daily in the morning. The weekly market is called ‘hat’. Generally, it sits once a week and sometimes twice a week in the afternoon and continues up to late in the evening.

However, the shops are usually arranged in a systematic way in the village market. In a village market, there are permanent shops, temporary shops, and open space shops. The open spaces shops of the same kind are clustered together and are arranged in rows. Fish, milk, fruit, betel leaves, vegetables, etc. are bought and sold in the open spaces shop. The temporary shops usually sell oil, rice, salt, pepper, spices, etc by blocking a place temporarily. The permanent shops are mainly some grocers, tailors, cloth dealers, stationers, and tea-sellers. There are different sections of the village market such as fish market, vegetable market, rice market, fruit market, and so on. The most crowded place is the fish and vegetable markets in the village market.

We can hardly think of a village market without haggling. Here, nothing is sold without haggling. A village market is very important to the villagers as they get all the necessary things of their daily use in a village market. Therefore, they need not go to distant places to buy and sell things.

Moreover, it is not only providing us its practical utility but also providing us its social value. It brings the people of different villages close and thus strengthens the bond of their unity. It is an important place for villagers as they can meet each other here and share their feelings. Some people come here only to pass an enjoyable time roaming about.

A village market is an unhealthy place. In the dry season, it becomes dusty and in the rainy season, it becomes muddy. There is no proper system for disposing of the garbage and other filths. It lacks proper sanitation too.

Though the village market is a noisy, filthy and unhygienic place, yet it is an integral part of village life. It is a place of gathering a vast number of people providing opportunities for sharing views and news. Proper care and arrangements should be made for the improvement of the unsatisfactory condition of the village market.
